Meet The Owners.

Jesse and Molly met outdoors as she was watering flowers and their first date was a river float, it’s no surprise that their love of the outdoors continues on at Steenbergen Farm! Both were born and raised in rural Kentucky with a love for the people in their community and the land. Jesse is a craftsman, he is a career lineman, electrician, builder, avid fisher and hunter, who is never afraid of hard work! Molly is creative and goal oriented, as a child she drew home and garden designs(a foreshadowing of her dreams), and loves home decorating. She was a teacher for 6 years and has recently decided to stay at home to devote her love & time to her boys and growing the farm.

Where it all Began

Married in May of 2016, they enjoyed their teamwork by remodeling their rented farmhouse with a frugal budget and hard work. Fast forward to the Steenbergens purchase of the 60 acres they live on now, where their beautiful farmhouse sits near a ridge overlooking the farm.  Much of the home, landscaping and barn was designed and built by Jesse and Molly.

The Sunflower Field

Jesse planted a sunflower field each year for dove season and Molly thought it was so beautiful and a photographer’s dream for an outdoor backdrop, why not open up to the public to enjoy the blooms? The first year was fun as sunflower lovers arrived to stroll through the sunflower fields, pick a bouquet and take family photos amid the blooms. Jesse and Molly soon discovered that meeting the guests and hearing their stories was a blessing in their lives as they relayed to each other the people they had met that day.  Between the seasons Jesse and Molly were blessed with the arrival of twin boys, assuring much joy and excitement in the future at Steenbergen farm!

The Greenhouse

In spring of 2020, zinnias, cosmos, gomphrena, bachelors buttons and other trial flowers were added to the garden which brought in a pleasant surprise of butterflies, including Monarchs! These added to the buzz in the air already provided by the abundant bees, numerous goldfinches attracted to the sunflower seeds, and Purple Martin birds that dart and dive since Jesse has provided gourd houses for above the sunflower fields. During a time of social distancing, Steenbergen Farm provided a fresh air space to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. With future events in mind, Molly designed a dream greenhouse that Jesse crafted with salvaged windows and antique bricks from historic homes in Russellville and Logan County. Started in fall of 2020, the greenhouse was completed in time to host a Santa experience in December.

Always Learning and Growing

Continually planning for the future, Molly and Jesse have ordered and planted tulip bulbs to bloom near the greenhouse and order seeds in the winter for summer flowers to be started in the greenhouse or planted in the gardens.

Molly is enriching her knowledge of agriculture by taking classes through the University of Kentucky agriculture extension program, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife and various online floral classes.

The Steenbergens welcome you to their farm and are excited for you to enjoy the blooms, bees, birds and butterflies, the greenhouse, fun events and the land that they love as you tour Steenbergen Farm! They look forward to meeting you.
